Today we discussed the many ways we use candles. The children came up with great ideas including: at Halloween in your jack-o-lantern; at Christmas; at Hanukkah; on birthday cakes; when your lights go out; at Kwanzaa. One child even mentioned that candles were used a long time ago before anyone invented electricity! Mrs. Spolter then shared a story about Hanukkah and why Jewish people celebrate Hanukkah for 8 nights. She shared 2 menorahs that her family uses and the blessings which are said when the menorah is lit. We will share other ways holidays (particularly those in December) use candles and lights for their celebrations.
