To help the children learn how the Earth rotates to make day and night; how the Earth travels around the Sun; and how the Moon travels around the Earth, we've been acting it out with a song.
We choose 3 children to wear one of the three tags in the photo below. The child with the Earth stands in the middle with the Sun on one side and the Moon on the other side. First, the Earth turns around between the Sun and the Moon representing day and night. Next, the Moon travels all the way around the Earth as the Earth is still spinning around. Finally, the Earth (still spinning) also moves around the Sun. The words to the song teach us that it takes the Earth one day to make a complete turn; it takes the Moon one month to travel around the Earth; and it takes the Earth one year to travel all the way around the Sun.
