PARENT NIGHT/PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

We are looking forward to sharing more about your child's day in Pre-K on Wednesday at Parent Night. The evening will begin at 7:00 in the theater. Following our time in the theater, all Pre-K parents should go to the Lower School Library for our Pre-K presentation. There will be supervised care for children on Wednesday night in the Pre-K "B" classroom/CASE room for Academy students and their (potty-trained) siblings.

During Parent/Teacher Conferences on Friday, there will also be supervised care in the Lower School Art room which is across from the Lower School office. Both of these supervised care options are free of charge.

WELCOME RULE

Today we introduced and discussed the "Welcome Rule". This rule means that anyone can participate in a game/activity as long as he/she follows the rule for that activity.

HOW MANY LETTERS ARE IN YOUR NAME?

Yesterday, we read the story of "Chrysanthemum"--an animal character with a very long name. Today we counted the letters in our names and graphed it.

LIBRARY

Walking into the reading room where we will hear stories.
Meeting Mrs. Mullin, one of the librarians.

Ms. Oeth, the other librarian, assisting Amya with checking out a library book.

MARVELOUS MONDAY 8-30-10

~FREE CHOICE FUN!~

~MUSIC CLASS WITH MRS. BUTLER~

~SEATWORK~
Today we did our first "seatwork" paper. The children did very well following directions for the task and also following through with the routine. We even play "brain music" during our seatwork to help us think and work at our best!

When children complete their seatwork, a teacher checks over their work and puts a sticker on the page. Next, the children put their paper into their blue folder, as Dorian is doing in the photo below.

~"THE NAME GAME"~
The children are doing very well learning the name of their peers. Their favorite name game is the one when we use the flashlight!

FRIENDLY FROG

Each day, a new child is chosen to be the "Friendly Frog". The "Friendly Frog" is the helper for the day and has many jobs to do--assists the teacher at calendar time; plays the clean-up song; is the line leader; passes out work, etc. Children are extremely excited when it is their turn to be the "Friendly Frog". Our first "Friendly Frog" was Nick!

"Pre-K Bell"

The note below was hanging in our room this morning. The note was from "Pre-K Bell"--an imaginary fairy who lives in our room and watches Pre-K students work and play. When Pre-K Bell "catches" a Pre-K child being polite, kind or helpful, she secretly leaves a note complimenting the child somewhere in the classroom. Pre-K Bell writes her notes on paper like the one in the photo below. Pre-K children are very excited when they receive a Pre-K bell note. Sometimes a Pre-K Bell note is for the entire class!
In the photo below is Pre-K Bell's house. Each morning, we greet Pre-K Bell by saying, "Good Morning, Pre-K Bell. Rise and Shine!". Then, the Friendly Frog rings the chimes on her house to let her know that our school day has begun.

WEEKLY READER

Today we introduced our first "Weekly Reader" and explained that it is like a magazine for children. We spent time discussing the contents of the magazine. Your child brought home the magazine today in the blue folder.
