NAME BOOKS
Today we introduced a name-writing practice book to help the children with writing their names with the first letter upper case, and the rest of the letters lower case. On each page of the book, a child traces his/her name four times. On the bottom of each page is a blank line for the child to practice writing his/her name on his/her own. Children will work on their name-writing books this week during station rotations.

FREE CHOICE FUN!
SNOWMAN GLYPHS WITH BUDDIES
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
Today, we did an "experiment" during snack time. Initially, the children were told if they are in the "yellow group", they could choose water or milk to drink. Children in the "green group" could only have water. The reason we did this "experiment" was to create an environment/situation of unfairness to see the children's reactions. When we sat down for snack, many children (both from the yellow group and the green group) commented to the teachers that it wasn't fair that some children could choose milk or water to drink while other children could only have water. We discussed the children's comments and feelings and then announced that the green group could also choose if they wanted milk or water to drink. This situation led us into our story and discussion about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his work to change unfair laws. Children also brought home a Weekly Reader magazine about Martin Luther King, Jr. to share and discuss with you at home.
