CATERPILLARS, BUTTERFLIES, AND MOTHS--OH MY!

  
 ~learning the different body parts of a butterfly...


 Ms. King had some amazing close-up, magnified photos of the different body parts of a butterfly.  Be sure to ask your child what body parts are in the photos below......

~The photo below are close-up photos of the scales on a butterfly's wings.
 ~Be sure to ask your child how he/she knows the monarch butterfly in the photo below is a male butterfly.
 ~Ms. King taught us the differences between butterflies and moths. 
 ~Ms. King explained to us how butterflies see color.  They don't see color the same way people do.  The colors they see are ultraviolet.

 

~Ms. King had a special ultraviolet light that she shined on our clothes to determine if a butterfly could see the color.
